Roicia Banks was born in Phoenix, Arizona and raised throughout the Grand Canyon State. She spent most of her younger years in the Hopi reservation and in the small Town of Winslow.
Ms. Banks studied at Arizona State University and graduated in 2011 from the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences earning a Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Ms. Banks then pursued her master’s in social work at the University of Houston.
While pursuing her Master of Social Work, she experienced her love for community serving at the local community center of Acres Homes. Ms. Banks assisted in creating research-based solutions training for state employees, and foster agencies in order to eliminate systematic racism occurring in the child welfare system.
Once she earned her degree, she was employed as a case manager and advocate for children in Children Protective Services. After two years, Ms. Banks decided to return to her home state of Arizona and pursue social work for the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community, where she served families in tribal government for four years as a social worker and advocate.
To make a bigger impact in her community, she became the owner and founder of Social Roots, LLC., providing a wide range of social work services focusing on people of color and under served communities. Social Roots provides consultation, cultural & behavioral competency training, contract social work and home visitation for attorney clientele.
